The BARK AVENUE story begins with founders China, an over indulged chow chow, and his devoted companion Renee, a former department store buyer.   The tone for their relationship had been set years earlier when Renee, upon picking up her little bundle of fur from a local breeder, took him to the nearest pet store and instructed him to “pick out whatever you want.”   From that moment, the pup knew that this was the beginning of a wonderful relationship.  He realized that he had Renee wrapped around his paw and that she would forever cater to his every whim.  As the little puppy grew into a handsome chow chow, Renee continued to look for new ways to spoil him.  She baked him homemade biscuits and she bought him all of the latest toys and accessories.  The two of them constantly scoured the island in search of hip and happening dog products but before long, they became frustrated by their limited choices.  One rainy day, after an unsuccessful expedition to find a fashionable collar large enough to fit China’s neck, they had an idea.  They could combine Renee’s background in fashion and retail with China’s expertise in all things canine and they would create a new and unique shopping experience for dogs and humans alike.  Not only would they assemble a distinctive array of quality dog products, but they would create a shopping experience that would celebrate the very bond between dogs and their adoring humans.  It was the perfect combination.

After much anticipation amongst the Honolulu canine community, BARK AVENUE opened its doors in February 2003.  Tails were soon wagging at the one of a kind assortment of stylish doggie fashions, designer accessories, fresh baked goodies, gourmet treats, and healthy foods – all under one roof.  A bright, inviting environment where four legged customers are encouraged to browse with their parents, BARK AVENUE has quickly become a must-shop destination and favorite hangout for dogs and dog lovers.  Canines of many shapes and sizes regularly visit from all over the island to try out the latest toys, grab a snack, or just sniff out a few new friends.

With the launch of a one of a kind website, BARK AVENUE is expanding its canine community worldwide.
