BARK AVENUE’s founder and original Canine Executive Officer, China was a self assured chow chow who always held his tail up high. Arguably few canines have lived a life so extraordinary. From a humble beginning, he rose to become a furry executive and one of Honolulu’s highest profile chow chows. As a “paws-on” CEO, his duties included product development and taste testing all treats sold in the store. He took his job very seriously. Photogenic and never camera shy, China took full advantage of all media opportunities. His television credits included appearances on the KHON 2 morning show, the Hawaiian Moving Company, and Central Pacific Bank’s “small business is big business” TV commercial. He also appeared in numerous BARK AVENUE ads. He loved morning walks, air conditioning, and more than anything else, good food. He was the life of every party and never turned down an invitation to a celebration involving presents and cake. In the spring of 2006, his health caused him to take a less active role in the business, stepping down from his position as CEO. He had been planning to spend his retirement years dividing his time between philanthropy and hanging out at McDonald’s with his retiree friends. However, arthritis and hip dysplasia proved to be too much for him. While his spirit remained strong, his body could not rebound. A wise old soul, brave protector, and true friend, China will be forever missed.
A silky terrier with attitude, Asia is BARK AVENUE’s current CEO as well as Chief Barking Officer. She is a doggie diva who insists on being the center of attention. From an early age, Asia displayed a flair for style and a taste for the finer things in life. She has become BARK AVENUE’s resident four-legged fashion expert and she enjoys modeling her ever-expanding wardrobe of designer doggie wear. She is especially partial to anything with “bling.” Like her older brother, Asia has been featured in a number of BARK AVENUE ads and she has the distinction of being the first dog to appear (and bark) on PBS’s Pacific Business News Friday television show. While she prefers to work from the home office, Asia also drops in to supervise the daily operations of the store from time to time. In her spare time, Asia’s favorite activities include going for long walks, shopping, and barking.
“Indy”, a young Tibetan terrier, is the newest member of the BARK AVENUE family. Despite his youth, he is the company’s latest furry executive in training. He knows that he has big paws to fill. Once he completes his education, he will take on duties as Vice President and Director of Paw-blic Relations. He is currently in charge of testing out all new squeaky toys sold at BARK AVENUE. Although he still has much to learn, India has already displayed great potential. His youth and energy will be great assets to the company. When not at work, Indy’s favorite hobbies include wrestling with his sister, annoying his sister, and chewing on things (and his sister). |
